Decorative MDF panels from Egger have been specified for one of the most innovative and stunning private new build projects in the U.K.
Egger's light grey and black EURODEKOR® MDF have been supplied directly to Haddon Lake House, a contemporary restoration project nearing completion on the Isle of Wight.
Haddon Lake House is an eco-friendly self-build set in a two-acre lakeside and walled garden, part of the leisure grounds of a significant Victorian estate dating from 1832 in the Undercliff, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Island.
Egger EURODEKOR® MDF was specified by initial project designer Mike Rainey of local architects Rainey, Petrie, Johns Ltd.
The grey MDF provides eye-catching wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling high wardrobe doors in the huge 36-foot long main bedroom - the only one in the house.
A built-in alcove for the double bed, set at the other end of the bedroom to provide a colour co-ordinated look, has also been created using Egger's EURODEKOR® MDF.
The minimalist look has been maintained through the use of MDF in black to provide stylish yet hardwearing lids for the window storage seats. Special hinge and latch mechanisms have been incorporated which enable the lids to open simply by being touched.
Elsewhere, Egger has supplied butcher-block beech postformed worktops for a series of tables in the visitors' studio and workshop area. Not only does this provide high impact resistance but offers a stylish and abrasion resistant addition to the room.
EURODEKOR® MDF is made from a decorative printed-paper covering a fibreboard core. This is a pre-bonded process whereby the finished material requires no further fabrication, reducing costs and manufacturing time.
Phillippa Lambert, who owns Haddon Lake House with husband Steve Lambert, said that the project is so innovative that it is being put forward for a series of self-build design awards in 2006.
She added: "We wanted high quality natural looking products throughout the house, which would last and provide a colour co-ordinated finish.
"The use of Egger EURODEKOR® MDF in the bedroom and living room has certainly provided this and added to the overall stunning look.
"What's more, Egger has been extremely co-operative with a very responsive service and technical back-up."
